Regeneration
In Southwark, regeneration means more than development. It is changing not just the face of the borough, but the way people live, work and spend time in it.
Our regeneration programmes are delivered by two departments, major projects and regeneration and neighbourhoods.
We work in partnership with the community, businesses and other public authorities to ensure our programmes are successful and make a real difference to people’s lives.
Major projects
The major projects department manages the development and delivery of

- Aylesbury estate
- Bermondsey Spa

- Building schools for the future
Regeneration and neighbourhoods
The regeneration and neighbourhoods department plan strategically the Southwark Plan, the local development framework to ensure planning and development is up to a high standard.
We also
- Determine planning applications and provide guidance on building control regulations
- Work closely with Transport for London to deliver major transport strategies and projects
- House the council’s community involvement and development unit which aims to empower local groups
- Look at the best ways of working to achieve social inclusion, community cohesion, research and consultation and resident involvement
- Are responsible for improving prosperity by delivering our Employment and Enterprise strategies
- House the Local Strategic Partnership, look after Local Area Agreements and the Community Strategy
- Manage housing regeneration which including housing strategy and the housing renewal areas
